The Support for Immigrant Women of Outaouais (AFIO) offers language interpretation services in the Outaouais region. We have created the interpreter bank upon the request of:
This initiative aims to address the challenges immigrant women face when reaching out to diverse resources and alleviate their sense of isolation. We would like to help the health and social services partners communicate more effectively for better interventions with the target audience and the community.
The Support for Immigrant Women of the Outaouais (AFIO) will reach this goal by collaborating with community and institutional partners.
The computerized management system for interpretation service requests has been developed by AFIO. The software is highly secure, allowing only authorized users to access it.
It will enable applicants to access various services 24/7 and manage interpretation requests online through AFIO's partners. Interpreters can also instantly accept, or decline received service requests. AFIO is responsible for monitoring the software's smooth operations.
AFIO, is a regional non-profit community organization, striving for the complete integration of immigrant women and families while fostering their autonomy.
To support immigrant women in the process of cultural, economic, and social integration in Outaouais.
To break the isolation of immigrant women and strengthen their civic participation in community life.
To promote and defend immigrant women’s rights.
The Interpreter Bank is a communication tool designed to assist immigrant women who are victims of domestic violence, as well as their children.
Considering that victims are often isolated, it is essential for them to have access to information enabling them to protect themselves during critical moments, such as episodes of violence or separation. It is also necessary to help the service providers communicate effectively and intervene better with this clientele.
The interpreters in the Interpreter Bank possess specialized training and expertise regarding issues related to violence against women. By providing culturally and linguistically appropriate support, this project facilitates effective communication between immigrant women and service providers, fostering positive interactions. Furthermore, this initiative plays a key role in establishing an improved system to address women's needs and quality of life. This project aims to be one of the solutions to meet the needs of women for the benefit of the whole community.
AFIO partnered with Jus Multi Creation Inc, a web solutions company, to develop the Interpreter Bank software. The idea behind creating this software is to enable online interpretation requests. The software is currently only available to our partner institutions. Only authorized users can log in to the software.
The software will enable applicants to access services 24/7. Registration with AFIO is required to obtain access to the service. Please contact interpretes@afio.ca for more information.
